This famous course, closely associated with Christy O’Connor Snr, is located on the North East Coast of Dublin, about 3 miles from the city centre. The course is laid out in the old traditional links style and the wind from Dublin Bay adds an extra challenge to the experience. Bull Island, where the course is located, is a bird sanctuary, an area of major scientific importance because of its variety of plant and wildlife. Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer competed here in the Irish Open 1983-1985.
A History of Great Play
Royal Dublin Golf Club has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments, including multiple Irish Opens and the Irish Amateur Open Championship. The club staged the Irish Open in 1931, 1936, 1951, and consecutively from 1983 to 1985. It has also held the Irish Amateur Open a record 29 times, highlighting its status as a premier championship venue.
