The Island Golf Club is quite simply one of the finest links golf courses in Ireland. It plays host the Irish Qualifying for the Open Championship from July 2005 through to 2010. The Irish PGA Championship was held here in 1999. Darren Clark proclaimed the course “a fantastic links which tests every clubs in the bag”. Beware of the ‘fearsome’ 13th hole, where the wind hazard adds to the experience. This course will leave a lasting impression make no mistake of that.
A History of Great Play
The Island Golf Club has a rich history of hosting prestigious championships, including the Irish Ladies’ Close Championship, the Irish Close Championship, the Irish PGA Championship, the European Youths’ Championships, the Irish Amateur Open Championship, and The Open Amateur Championship (co-hosted with Portmarnock Golf Club).
