The course is over 7,000 yards from the championship tees which is all the more pertinent as the fairways are some of the narrowest in Scotland. It is unrelenting in its demands; every shot must be carefully placed – accuracy is the last word. The Championship Course commands respect; play from the forward tees can be equally demanding and plenty of professional as well as amateur golfers are fooled by the need to be ‘long off the tee’. This misunderstanding of the nature of the course has led many into the unforgiving rough, which comprises a variety of grasses that make it very difficult to recover from.

A History of Great Play

Carnoustie Golf Links has hosted The Open Championship eight times, the Senior Open twice, and the Women’s British Open once. It has also staged The Amateur Championship and is one of three courses featured in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
